Most of the 200 students, parents, and teachers that are expected to attend know very little about the Detroit Salsa Community. The event organizers are really hoping that people from our salsa community can join them for dancing so that everyone can see that salsa is good clean fun that anyone can learn and enjoy for years to come. So come out, bring your flashy moves and help these kids with their goal of getting people excited about salsa!

High School Musicale

Three way salsa
Enthusiasm and passion.
This is was the intersection last Saturday where the Canton-Plymouth High School Salsa Club met YA Salsa. The kids at Canton-Plymouth created their own salsa club to promote unity and understanding of Latino culture and they of course love to dance! That is where YA Salsa came into the picture.

After their annual dance show, the Canton Plymouth Salsa Club finished off Saturday evening with a potluck dinner and a social of their own. We had a nice turnout of about 15 dancers from the Detroit area as well as our guest instructors Johnny & Andres Giradaldo from Boston and Chezron from Colombus Ohio and topped it off with a group of terrific dancers from Toronto who came to hang out and dance for the weekend.

One of the great highlights of the evening was not just Johnny & Andres' performance, but that the reception for the the audience was so overwhelming and positive. In addition we got a chance to dance with the students and their teachers and even provide an impromptu lesson on the basics.

Descarga Caribe Performance @ Flava Invasion 3

I just saw this video on Addicted2Salsa.com and I have to share this. We often talk about salsa and it's Afro Cuban roots but rarely do you see a performance that so spectacularly combines them together. This is the Descarga Caribe dance company from Chicago whom YA Salsa hosted last year for a great weekend of performances, workshops and the social. Take a look and I hope you are as amazed as I am.

Ken mentioned in his review of Flava Invasion 3 how great the performances were and now I believe him!

Salsa Street Fighter

Before I was sucked into salsa, I was sucked into video games. I gave up gaming to do more "productive" stuff and I ended up getting into salsa.

It's not in your feet, it's in your soul!

I'm personally not really too much into the cheesy videos or heart warming stories, but this really goes beyond all that. This is a really nice performance and pretty amazing to watch...
