February Update from Grupo Escobar

Hi Everyone, This is from Steve from Grupo Escobar, I just wanted to send a brief message about the gigs we have coming up in the Detroit area.

The last few months have been very exciting with our December gig at the Scarab Club, and our most recent January gig at Gleaner's.  Now we have an upcoming Valentine's Day gig at The Magic Stick, and more to come in '09.  We love this music and are are trying to bring Cuban Salsa to the masses at places not necessarily known for Latin Music.  We've received very enthusiastic response from venues and first timers alike about the unique experience of salsa and because dancers are part of our music we are making sure that the venues are dancer friendly.

We have been around for a few years now and are working hard to help develop a scene where music and dancing are a way of life in Detroit.  With that we are trying to find the best venues and create the best events for our music.

The Magic Stick was renovated last year (70,000 bucks!), and is now a modern and very professional venue with a new very modern sound system. There is a $4 guarded parking lot and space for regular free parking. There is a great dance floor, bar service, cocktail tables with the high chairs, regular tables on an elevation, security, and it's very clean! When i saw it I was knocked out, as I hadn't been there in about 7 years. The Magic Stick is also part of the Majestic Theater, Majestic Cafe, and the Rock-n-Bowl complex, the Cafe offers a different full service bar, food, etc.  The Majestic Theater plays host to a lot of music from different parts of the globe as well as the Magic Stick. Lots of people coming in and out of this place all night long!

The Band and I want to make sure you feel welcome at these new locations. I want people who have supported us in the past to know that if you're coming up alone, that you can hang out with us!  You can contact us through Facebook, myspace, or regular E mail, or phone, to try to reserve a table if there's problems getting through at the venue.

I've had a lot of feed back from new people who want dance lessons, and others who see all the music and dancing as some of the best partying they've seen in a long time!  I think we can make the scene bigger and better by bringing Detroit City into the fold.

Thanks!

Steve

Grupo Escobar is an 8-piece Salsa and Timba Group from Detroit specializing in music from Cuba. The band members have all converged from different backgrounds and nationalities to form a group that can grind out modern tropical rhythms. Cuba has always been a melting pot for musical styles and has been very controversial in it's constant efforts to create new and exciting compositions in Dance Music, and many other art forms. Grupo Escobar seizes on this spirit and combines their thorough experience in Timba, Salsa, Jazz and American, Cumbia, and Tropical Rhythms to bring the audience a diverse and rich onslaught of high-energy music. Expect High Energy Music and Dance! All generated through "La Clave". "AGUA!"
