Chicago Salsa Congress 2008 Survival Guide

For many Detroit salseros the upcoming Chicago Salsa Congress will be their first Chicago Congress or maybe even their first congress. So we are here to offer a little info on what to expect and how to make it home in one piece.

Review: The 7th Chicago Intl. Salsa Congress - Highlights

There is too much to report here so I will stick to the top three highlights.
I have been to about a dozen salsa congresses over the years and I can honestly say this one was the best ever. I don't say that lightly. I had attended my first Afro-Cuban Music & Dance Festival in Boulder, Colorado in August of last year and figured that a salsa congress would not be able to match up anymore. Not.

Chicago Salsa Festival 2008

The 2008 Chicago Salsa Festival is gearing up to take over downtown Chicago with four days and nights of dancing indoor and out. The festival is centered at the historic Palmer House hotel in the financial district downtown. The Palmer house is known for its huge elegant ballrooms and is a perfect location to access everything downtown including shopping, restaurants and of course the beach.

Organizers Lisa "La Boriqua" & Latin Street Dancing have lined up 30 workshops, lots of performances and live concerts each night at nearby clubs and during the Taste of Chicago festival in Grant Park.
