Thursday Salsa Night @ Sips Bar and Grill -- Opening Night

DJ Sabor opens Detroit's newest Salsa night at Sips Bar and Grill in Farmington Hills and Grupo Escobar will be there to make this one extra special. The night starts off with free salsa lesson and in between sets Sabor will play the best in Latin sounds. Guest DJs for the night will include DJ XS and DJ Issac known for his broad range of old school and new classics.

Grupo Escobar kicks off their first night at Sips Bar & Grill in Farmington Hills with a power packed night of salsa and dancing. Lead by guitarist and singer Steve Jarosz, Escobar has been a mainstay of the Detroit Salsa scene for the last few years and they are well known for the raw energy and passion they bring to their music.

Club Amnesia in the Motor City Casino hosts musical guest Orchesta Ire once a month. Amnesia is an an upscale Vegas-style club on top of the casino with great views of Detroit / Windsor.

Orchesta Ire plays a fast upbeat blend of Puerto Rican favorites and features many of Detroit's best-known Latin players. There is plenty of seating for relaxing between dances and a late night tapas menu to replenish your energy.

A few years back I stumbled across an album in the Latin bin of a used record store and it instantly became one of my favorites for dancing. I doubt a lot of a people have heard of Celina Gonzalez.... Of course neither had I at the time and I had no idea exactly who or what I was listening to - but I was immediately transfixed.

Known as the Queen of Punto Cubano or Queen of Country in her native Cuba, Celina's fantastic voice and great arrangements from Frank Fernandez and the Adalberto Alverez orchestra seemlessly blend the old sounds of guajira & son with the new sound of their descendant salsa, jazz and even a little funk.
