Great Opening @ Pi!

I have to say I really enjoyed Pi. Although the performances all happenend way before we arrived, it was a great atmosphere for chatting and hanging out and they were able to clear out a lot of room for dancing. Cisco did a nice job on the music and played a little more variety in the salsa spectrum than I usually hear at Sky Club. OK, one complaint -- towards the end of the evening, the music was way too loud and it became difficult to talk in a group or order a drink for that matter, virtually impossible to hear the calls in our ruedas and just plain uncomfortable. A nice thing about a restaurant like Pi is that it offers an opportunity to socialize as well as dance.

The hardwood floor is actually very spacious and divided into two rooms on either side of the entry way but one thing to keep in mind is that it is a deep natural grain and can be a bit tougher to spin on than the highly polished floors we are used to.

The turnout was great and we saw a lot of new faces. I wish the kitchen had stayed open a little longer - the tapas menu looks great. Compliments to Dal and Salsa Detroit -- they did a great job not only in finding a new venue, but also in putting a very professional touch on creating the evening and hopefully making a great impression on the Pi owners.

A special thanks to Dal for taking the time to talk to the crowd about YA and the larger Detroit salsa scene over the PA - letting people know that that are lots of great dance opportunies out there for everyone. Not that everyone has to talk about YA specifically, but it would be great if the promoters and DJs would talk about the overall Detroit dance scene and not just their own events.

While they plan do only do it once a month, I can't wait for the next one!
