Detroit Rock Salsa!

Jamin weilds his mighty axe!

Anticipation! It seemed like an eternity since the last social but it was well worth the wait! After almost a 6-week break, the July salsa social drew in about 300 people from every corner of Michigan. As we always say, the YA Salsa mission is to help expand the Detroit salsa scene, and after seeing all the new faces on Sunday, I have to say that it is working. Thank you all for coming out to dance with us and thank you for helping us spread the word by telling our friends about salsa!

This social was certainly a hot one! I think we all lost about 10 lbs of water weight by the end of the night. People often ask if the American Legion has air conditioning and if it is even on.The answer is YES and YES. Unfortunately the AC is no match for 300 people dancing salsa for 4 hours straight. We do our best to help the AC keep us cool by adding the fans, ice cream treats, and face towels at the front desk. We even try to play slower salsa tracks! I guess the only thing left to do is to dance less… Come on! Who are we kidding? That is simply not an option!! Maybe we should all wear less clothes? (evil grin)

It's Salsa! Com'on, you're expected to sweat!

One thing left to add. THANK YOU everyone for the love and gifts

bestowed upon me last night. It was simply the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me. I am STILL in shock from it and grinning ear to ear. The whole thing was a complete surprise to me and I have only just now learned the size and scale of it. Initially I thought it was something that a few people on the team came together to do. It was only recently that I learned that a whole bunch of people from the salsa community chipped in. I cannot express enough how much it all meant to me. I will cherish it always. Guitar is something I have always wanted to learn and now I have extra, extra motivation to follow through with it. I promise I will not let you down!

Thanks George, Sebastian, and Jessica for orchastrating the surprise. How you managed to keep it a secret from me for so long I will never know. I must be slippin' in my old age :)

July Salsa Social

You're right Jamin! The Social rocked! We did have about 300 avid people, eager to dance, learn, have fun. As I was passing by, somebody said "Thank You!" to me & I said, "thank you for coming!" Then he said, "No, thanks to you people for doing this!!!' Yessss!

Now, regarding the heat, yeah, it's hot, but that is because everybody is so ardent about salsa! (~:~) My usual comment when people ask me how I am at a party, I say I'm sweaty, so I'm happy! It means I've been dancing!

And there's a lot more people enjoying than complaining... We just take turns in front of the fans... ;~) When I'm at the door & see people leaving I ask them: Did you have fun? Everybody's answer is: Oh yeah!!!

Last but not least, Jamin, we're so glad you enjoyed our little appreciation gift, for everything you do & have done for the Socials!!! We really appreciate your time & efforts!!!

I practice every day :)

I practice with the guitar everyday. Thank you so much!

Guitar

So Jamin, what's more fun?, playing Guitar Hero, or a real guitar.

Both are Fun :)

Both are pretty fun. Rock band makes you and a bunch of your friends instant rock stars. Even to the point of playing and singing while lit up on booze… Just like a real rock star! Good times, Good times 

Learning how to play the real guitar is something that I have wanted to do forever and it feels good to finally start making some progress on that goal. It sort of feels like the early days of my salsa addiction when everything about it was new and exciting. It was awkward and clumsy in the beginning but I kept coming back for more. At the end of each day I made a little progress and could not wait to come back and see what progress I could make the next time.
