What could be better than dancing till twilight to salsa on a warm summer night? Top of the Park, Ann Arbor's most beloved summer event presents a night of music and dancing on the steps of Ingalls Mall to the sounds of Grupo Salvaje and Tumbao Bravo. Started in 1983, the Top of the Park is just one of the events in the Ann Arbor Summer Festival which has become a signature event attracting over 60,000 people between June and July each year.
This is a great outdoor event pretty much guaranteed to be fun for everyone -- dancer or music lover. Since salsa is a street dance, be prepared with the right shoes as the dance surface will be concrete. Dance sneakers like the Blochs work great. The night starts with Tumbao Bravo at 7:00 PM and runs till 11:00 PM including a 2 hour set from one of Detroit's finest, Grupo Salvaje.

Top of The Park Ann Arbor!
Posted July 6th, 2008 by hparsonsThis was sooo fun!! However being a pretty seasoned salsera I was soooo mad at myself!! Note to self (and others) concrete and heels do not a good dancing night make!!

Awesome Top of the Park!!!!!!!
I am soooo flipping excited about this one. I grew up in Ann Arbor and used to go to Top of the Park as a kid. It's just a great atmosphere and a great place to be this time of year. Awesome!

After salsa at Top of The Park, head out to El Camino Real for more salsa! This is a new night that will start on July 5th in Ann Arbor. The music will include salsa, merengue, bachata, raggaeton.

Depending on demand Laura may open the Dance Revolution studio for people who want to dance after 11pm. This is tentative.

While I live in Livonia, I grew up and now work in Ann Arbor and I would love to have a group go with to Top of the Park and then to the new club by Briarwood Mall to round out the night. If anyone is interested in meeting at my place and either carpooling or caravaning over, post a note here or call me. I live at 7 and Farmington.
I know Ann Arbor is kinda far away for the Detroit-area salseros but many from the West side came to Harem and it wouldn't hurt to put our stamp on and influence a new night (e.g. the right mix of music) elsewhere right off the bat.

Salsa NIght at Top of the Park, Ann Arbor
Not only Mama Nature gave it an awesome day, but the crowd was huge, including lots of dancers! We had lots of fun!
The orchestras were on time and did great performances. Now, of course, I loove Grupo Salvaje and all of the musicians & singers!
Tumbao Bravo, even though it is supposed to be Cuban, played some Cha-Chas, but mostly Latin Jazz, some of which was more for listening that for dancing, although some people did... Of course, that is my personal opinion, but it was shared by some other people.... (~:~)
Many people, including my group, went afterwards to El Camino Real opening, with music provided by DJ Sabor. We had lots of fun there too! In general it was a great afternoon & evening!
