Detroit NOT a salsa city? and Dancing salsa when out of town

So, I posted this question on MySpace, but I also wanted to see if anyone here knows of good places to go in Las Vegas to dance salsa - advice or feedback not found when performing a Google search such as places you've gone to that you can personally vouch for as good places to go. If you have any suggestions, please share.

That being said, I came across what looks to be a really cool site tha lists salsa dancing locations the world over "Salsa Cities" and guess what? Detroit is not listed. Hmm...? Perhaps it's a matter of sharing the fact that we do have a vibrant salsa community with salsapower.com.

At any rate, it loks like a pretty cool site if you are looking to travel anywhere around the world and want to make sure you can get your salsa fix while you're there.

Well, I'll see how we can change that

Thanks for the heads up... I just sent them an e-mail about getting MI listed on there :)

I got a response Sebastin!

The webmaster from the site sent me the reply below. We will need some one to provide the information requested. I'm thinking you would be a great candidate for this. I would do it, but I'm not in Detroit and would prefer someone more knowledgable on current events to provide athe webmaster what's needed. Let me know; Again, the reply is below and she should be emailing me again soon. If it is a yes, I'll provide your information and inform her that you will be our rep. and will provide all information for the site. :)

Dear la'Shena,

We would love to add Detroit to the SalsaCities section, but we need a local correspondent! If that local Correspondent happened to be you, then your site would be linked from our Detroit SalsaCities page and your activities would be highlighted at a global level. If you are interested, please let me know! Responsibilities of a Local Correspondent are to create a clubs list, a schools list (yes, even your competitors) and then maintain them up to date. You may elect to have an events section as well, but it is not required ....and you may occasionally receive e-mail from SalsaPower readers who may be coming to your area. You would be expected to answer them in a professional manner that would well-represent the SalsaPower family. The benefits, of course, are global visibility of your organization and joining a network of like-minded salseros around the globe!

Let me know if you are interested and I will then send you the link to our instruction page for new correspondents.

Hoping to hear from you soon,

Jacira

Salsa in Vegas

Hi Jess,
My girlfriend goes to Vegas about every 6 weeks. She's also a dancer. She keeps wanting me to go with her. She says there's Salsa dancing every Friday night at the Gold Coast. I remember the Gold Coast from years past. It was the only place that had 2.00 hand Black Jack tables and it was smoke-free. All the retired locals hung out there. You might want to check it out.

Vegas Update

Hi Jess,
Just talked to my friend that frequents Vegas. There's Salsa dancing every Friday and Saturday at the Gold Coast in the ballroom (first floor). Ten dollar cover, live music, and maybe includes one drink. Starts at 11:00 pm. Mary has nothing but good things to say about it. Have fun!

Thank you!

I stopped by the Gold Coast Casino Showroom to see what could be done about getting my Salsa fix on and it was well worth the cab fare ...

I got there at 11:30 p.m. and for a $5 cover, I got a free well/domestic drink ticket, a live band and a wealth of mid-to-good salsa dancers. The band spoke only in Spanish, but that didn't matter. The seats were packed from the get-go so it was hard finding a seat but I found people to be equally as friendly there as they are here. I guess salseros are just "that way" in general.

I'd recommend it to anyone. The nice part is that everyone dressed up which was really cool. It's not often you see men in suits and ladies in cocktails dresses for a random night out.

Thanks guys for sharing! I'm definitely going to do it again!! I could barely drag myself out of there at 2:30 a.m.! and no, it wasn't from all the free drinks ... it was just a lot of fun.

We'll be on there soon

We'll be listed on their website soon :)
