PSP - What Comes Next
Hi Guys, DJ Mis.Match here.
First, I want to apologize to the salseros who drove out to Pontiac last night and found that there was no party.
Last Saturday, we made the judgement call to cancel after a minimal turnout Friday night and it was unfortunately not updated on the Crofoot site. The reason there was no formal announcement of the cancellation made is because it was decided it was not necessary – clearly that was a bad call. To the handful of people who traveled out there, I offer my sincerest apologizes for the inconvenience on your Friday night out.
Secondly, I am now officially announcing the new Pura Salsa Party location and opening date.
Starting Friday, February 29, Mis.Match Productions will be hosting a series of regular Friday night parties featuring DJ Sabor at Pi on the corner of Franklin Road and Northwestern Highway. We will be offering salsa lessons at 9:00 pm and...will premiere with a performance by Orquesta Inspiracion at 10:00! It’s twenty one and up, $15 cover, “after-nine attire” (bring those ballroom shoes!), and we’re open until 2:00 am.
You can check it out at www.piofsouthfield.com - We will be using the entire banquet building… and it’s gorgeous. No charge for parking, no charge for coat check, and stay tuned for VIP packages that include discounts on dinner, fine wines, featured free hors ‘douvres and much, much more.
In the past couple of weeks, I have worked to refocus my efforts and energies on bringing the Pura Salsa Party closer to home - and this will not be like the Crofoot with scattered dates and minimal promotions. The restaurant is going to be working with me on the marketing and I am going to focus most of our promotions outside of the immediate salsa community and bring in new people – LOTS of new people.
**For anyone out there who loves salsa and wants to see a more expanded scene… please get in touch me, there is a lot of work to be done and already so much is happening! The PSP is going to come back strong and needs dedicated people behind it. And hey, this time I’ve even got a little experience under my belt.
Feel free to e-mail me with any questions/comments at djmis.match@gmail.com. I check my e-mail daily and as always, I'm open to hearing what anyone has to bring to the table.
One last thing... Tonight, I will be celebrating my birthday with a party hosted by the Troy Dance Studio. It’s their social so, please come and celebrate with us! I also plan to ring in my twenty fourth out in Canton at Sabor’s Tryst Nightclub Bash - and I will be bringing fliers for the new Friday night at Pi.
You know… I can’t think of a better way to start the year than with a new plan, a new frame of mind and a Saturday night spent with friends, family and of course, my salsa. ;)
Be well,
Ashley

Disagree
I disagree with not informing the salsa crowd of cancelling Crowfoot. If you want to build trust I'd suggest being proactive next time. You knew the information last Saturday and had time to post it.. I wish to thank Nellie for the blog yesterday which saved some salseros the trip.
As far as the new venture with PI I sincerely wish you luck.
I appreciate that and thank
I appreciate that and thank you! As for any future postings, there will be announcements made through email and the PSP website that is currently under construction. As for this site, I think it's best to allow you guys to reach me directly from now on - there will be less room for confusion that way. Anyone who needs immediate information re. PSP can email me at djmis.match@gmail.com or can sign up and message me via www.purasalsaparty.com. See you all on the 29th!
PSP Web site not ready
DJ Mis.Match, your new web site doesn't look like it's even done being built yet - I would not be tempted to "sign up" or go there for news since you don't even have the new party posted there. I highly reccommend that you not direct people to that site unless you want to make yourself look less than competent - sorry. I just think you turn every person off who goes to the site who finds it's not functioning at the level you hope or that they need. Bad move from a marketing perspective.
PSP = POS
It doesn't matter where you post announcements if you can't keep your word. I understand that you were not expecting a big turnout last night but to cancel it and not even attempt to let anyone know is very inconsiderate. Especially to those of us who were listening and made plans to be there.
Do I risk making plans for your event on the 29th? Are you going to cancel it if you think not enough people will show up?
Pura Disgrace
Your arrogance and disregard for a "handful" of people willing to support you is despicable. But I guess since studios host birthday parties JUST FOR YOU (not that they primarily planned a social there months in advance) we shouldn't miss you anywhere you decide to grace us with your presence. Hopefully people will think twice next time in supporting you. With an attitude like that you can keep "Your salsa", we'll keep ours.
"Dedicated People behind it"
You mean like the ones who showed up to the Crofoot for and got the big FU?
Take it easy
All this griping is harshin' my buzz for salsa tonight! While you all have valid points and it sucks that it went down this way, just remember that in the end this site is here to help people find a good time, with good people, and good salsa music. Hopefully goof ups like this one does not ruin your entire salsa experience.
So come on out to the YA Salsa Social tonight and wash away those negative vibes with some salsa dancin'!!
thank you, jamin. i couldnt
thank you, jamin. i couldnt agree more.
nasty comments and harsh ciriticisms by 'anonymous' people who dont have the decency to acknowledge their identities is NOT what this site is for and will not receive a further reaction. the meanness portrayed here by 'anonymous' is unmerited and certainly unfair. i have, as any mature adult should, acknowledged the screw-up on friday and am doing my best to pick up the pieces and move on. everyone makes mistakes and yes- i am still learning! this has been a long road - but i am not going anywhere, not until i make this work... and that's what 'dedicated' is. no need for further rebuttal.
*as for 'my' b-day party at the TDS, please! talk about making something out of nothing. how old are we?
*in regards to the 29th... NO there will not be a cancellation! that's what 'lesson learned' means. i'm very excited for the opening date and am especially looking forward to the performance by orquesta inspiracion. the last time they performed was in december and it's going to be a great night.
*in regards to the psp website... for the next few weeks it will appear as a splash page that has our basic event data listed - nothing more. dates, times, locations, etc. thats it. something tells me i could be avoiding a whole slew of confusion if i downsize!
i think it's really sad that those few people who can't appreciate the purpose of a fantastic website like this can abuse it and make it unusable for others in the community. it really is a shame and so... any further comments/questions can be directed to my email at djmis.match@gmail.com. i will no longer be responding to comments posted here but will be happy to keep in contact through my own network. best of luck to all of you and i hope to see you on the 29th for the psp (not pos :) a pi!
best,
mis.match
There were no abuses here...
It is not an abuse of this site to express negative feedback and it hardly makes the site unusable. Feedback, good or bad, is exactly what makes this site valuable. If you do not care to respond to it then that is your choice but I doubt that will stop people from warning others when they have an exceptionally bad experience.
Actually I am sort of disturbed by your mere suggestion that this site is unusable and being abused when, in fact, you ask us to post an event here, we take the time to build a page for it with accurate information, you post a second event notice yourself in your blog page, and then you cancel the event with no notice to us or anyone else. If anything, that is the abuse of this site and not the justifiably negative feedback.
Right... which is exactly
There is nothing wrong with feedback or constructive criticism but I do have feelings - and any offense I take from 'anonymous' people and their public character attacks is my own sentiment and that hurt is one hundred percent valid. If I am not mistaken... it was you who called for the 'cool down' and it was much appreciated - perhaps I misread your very clear comment.
Now it is time to move on to what is next. I have acknowledged the cancellation and apologized - that is all I can do and I do not intend to carry this any further. What's done is done. What's next is PSP @ Pi... a beautiful hall, great music, fine wines, extensive promotions, advertisements to a diverse clientele - and a brand new page for Mis.Match Productions and salsa in my hometown.
More information will be availble via electronic fliers, email, MySpace, Facebook, detroitsalsadance.com, the TDS site, and of course, at www.purasalsaparty.com (which will appear with only basic info. and erase many complications). Also keep an eye out for the new PSP at Pi in Six Degrees Magazine and read our article in the upcoming March issue of Platinum Lifestyle Magazine.
Again, further comments/questions can be directed to my email at djmis.match@gmail.com.

Good luck with your new night.
You completely missed my point but that is OK. I agree, it is time to let it go.
Good luck to you.and your new event.
Promotion Accountability and Responsibility
I think most, if not all, will agree that the YA Salsa website has served as a wonderful and centralized site for Detroit Salseros to find out about salsa events (local, nationally, and internationally).
.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the contributors who make this site great, especially Jamin for making this site a success. Many of you may not know the extra care and attention that Jamin takes in the Marketing department. Yes, he actually performs analytics over site traffic. :-)
.
I would like to add, to avoid confusion, if someone posts an event, THEY are responsibe for UPDATES regarding the event.
.
Let's face it, it's cold and gas prices are high. :-) Salseros who travel to a venue that has been cancelled with no notice are going to be upset. Even when a person makes a post "anonymous", it should be taken as a valid comment. It is always important to keep the consumer in mind, even when they are dissatisfied and ALWAYS when it is the fault of the promoter. Lessons Learned is the right attitude but accompanied with an attitude of sincere concern for Customer Satisfaction.
.
These posts are exhausting to read.
.
As a general rule, if you POST it, you OWN it, UPDATE the announcement. :-)
BIG HUG!

Agreed :) And this is my
Agreed :) And this is my last posting. Better to leave it on a positive note, I think. Thanks, "Cat".
Hope to see you all on the 29th!
This site is about community
I don't think there have been abuses, but I will say that pushing the line of civility is not very nice especially when people are "anonymous". We are trying to bring people together not push them apart and make them wonder who said what.
You have to ask yourself: "Would I write this or say this if everyone could see who I am?" The anonymous features is not here to insulate you from people knowing who you are and what you said. It is a convenience. People do have feelings and while I'm sure some are mad, you should be adults and show some kindness and consideration. Being direct is fine, even negative feedback helps everyon learn and if you have criticism make it -- I do and everyone knows who I am because I stand behind what I say.
I'm glad people put their 2 cents in, but I hope we can all get along in doing it.
Geo-
This community is like a family
Which often means we won't agree or get along even, but we all share the same love which is salsa and mutual respect for that. I think your new venture at Pi sounds interesting and though your faux pas may have turned a few off, I am always happy to move forward towards new experiences. If you can stay consistent and considerate (in spite of the spit fire that may occur from time-to-time), then your future successful endeavors will help people to forget the past. I look forward to the future and wish you luck MisMatch - I truly do. Just don't duck out of a conversation if it's uncomfortable. Many a problem is solved when engaging in such conversations. ;-)

Anonimity
Anonimity can be a positve or negative thing. On a positive note it may separate personalities & biases from the reader or writer and afford a sense of privacy & safety. It may encourage others to exercise their "voices" when they would normally remain silent if their identities were disclosed. On a negative note it may be used as a weapon or hypercritical opinion or just to express negative feeling which is neither good nor bad. What I've seen here is a mixture of these.
I applaud Jamin, Geo-, Jess, & Kat , & others for their professionalism and dedication to providing an honest, fair, open, & sincere means of sharing the passion for salsa through the website. They try their best not to offend anyone as evidenced by previous blogs & postings. May you continue with your talents & goals in maintaining your mission.
Some of the respondent's comments were harsh. We all react differently to disappointment. Ashley, many of us have been new at something and have experienced growing pains. I hope you & others can heal the wounds, grow from the experience, and move on. I wish you success with Pi & any other ventures in achieving your dreams.
