Energetic Soul's Holiday Extravaganza 2007

Energetic Soul studios is showing their appreciation to their students and Detroit Salseros by hosting a Holiday Dance Party and Dinner! Celebrate the holidays with workshops, dinner and dancing with duane and his Energetic Soul crew at their studio in Clawson. Workshops from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm followed by a Pot Luck Dinner-Dance from 9:00 pm until 12:00 am where you can pass your favorite dish and dance the night away.

  • 12:00 pm Rueda de Bachata! Come try this preview of one of their new courses for 2008. Led by Mala Chaudery & Chris Malgeri, this class features Bachata turns in a Rueda format and is a great way to expand your bachata skills.
  • 1:00 pm Rueda de Casino! duane continues teaching his special turns in this truly Cuban style dance.
Dinner The dinner-dance will run from 9:00 pm until 12:00 am with the best in Salsa, Timba, Chachacha, Hustle, Tango, Bachata and more! If you like rueda, this is the place to go.

Energetic Salsa to the Max

I thought it would be a good idea to start off the holidays with some dancing. So, on Saturday, December 22 I headed out to Energetic Soul Dance Studio for what turned out to be a fabulous workout. Duane Wrenn has delivered it once again, with the “Energetic Salsa to the Max” workshop. Unfortunately, I could not stay for the remaining workshops, but the sixty minutes that I spent at the ESDS were enough to bring my energy level way up.

And even though I’ve been training with Duane for five years, he never seizes to amaze me. He always has more and more to offer. This particular workshop was out of this world. Even some of the other instructors that teach at the ESDS – Maribel and Rico – participated in it, and every level of dancer that was present seemed to have a great time. My hats go off to the Fantastic Four because they never stop on improving their skills. And in my opinion, that is the only way they can bring the very best to their students, by constantly taking their own dancing to the max.

“Energetic Salsa to the Max” workshop was designed to bring your heart rate up with an aerobic type of dancing. Of course, there was a “warm up” at the beginning and a “cool off” at the end. Everything in between was pure energy. The steps were somewhat new to me, nevertheless, they were not very difficult to follow. And although I’m more of a technical dancer (I need to know the steps and technique very well before I can put my own style into it and really have fun with it), I did enjoy it a great deal. Not only was I able to pick up the steps rather quickly, but the pace at which the steps were executed kept going up, which made my feet move almost automatically, as opposed to thinking about the steps so much.

And the great news is that it was a preview of what’s coming up at the ESDS in the New Year – 2008. I will definitely come back for this one. It was ENERGETIC, it was SALSA, and it was undeniably brought to the MAX.
