San Francisco Bay Area Salsa Congress - Nov. 1-4, 2007

I was fortunate to have a meeting in the Bay area earlier this month. The best part of the meeting was the fact it overlapped with the San Francisco Bay Area Salsa Congress. I highly recommend this congress if you are considering something out of the area and very unique.

The congress itself took place on the Oakland side of the bay. The kickoff party was hosted at a club called Cafe Cocomo. Soooo wish Detroit had a spot like this. Plenty of space and a stage for the band. The congress workshops were very good and they catered to the On1, On2 and the "I don't give a S_ _t what we dance on" crowd. I actually saw a couple from Detroit at the social dance. A girl I know from Troy Dance Studio was out west visiting friends and decided to check out the party.

This congress is best known for its Pro & Amateur Jack & Jill contest. I participated and too much of all of your surprise (yeah right!!!!), I was knocked out in the first round of the amateur contest (not that anybody thought I was in the Pro competition). Both contests give you a chance to see some great dancers at their best and showing off all their best shines and tricks. Hmm, get that. Dancers showing off! Who could ever imagine such a thing?

Of course you had your all night dancing to live bands and on stage performances. If you wanted a break, you could've just jumped on BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) and head for downtown San Francisco! When I was there it was 60-70 degrees in the afternoon! If you've never been to the Bay Area, you are in for a treat. Golden Gate Bridge, street cars, The Rock, Fisherman's Wharf, and so many other beautiful locations to view and visit.

I posted some video on You Tube. Just search for Junior & Emily on2.
Wanna see some pics, just holla at me!

Great Review!

Keith, thanks for the review. Cafe Cocomo looks like it deserves and investigative trip out there. I don't think I've seen Junior and Emily before, but they've got some moves.
