Openly biased - October Social 2007 Review

Jessica & Mark Anthony
This is going to be the most boring review ever because I can really only say great things about the October YA Social. I simply had a great time all day. As I wrote earlier, the pre-social meal was a great time and it really started things off perfectly. Dinner took a little bit longer than originally anticipated, so when I got to the social at 7 PM, things were already well underway. I was pleased to walk into a crowded room with hardly any free room on the dance floor.

Aside from the great dancing, we had awesome performances from Mark Anthony and Akila as well as 1.75 performances from the Mas Mambo dance troupe. I'm glad that Mark insisted on starting over when there was a glitch in the sound -- they came a long way to perform for us and a little trouble between a disk and a player should never interfere.

As if the performances were not enough, I have to say that that was the funniest halloween costume contest I've ever witnessed - Jamin and the costumers were hillarious. I'm going to balk at the people's choice award for first place, the "transvestite exhibitionist nun" and cast a clear winner vote for Sharon's "YA Salsa website outfit". Genius! Hopefully next year we have 10 copy-cats.

My Favorite Costume!

Since the socials have started, I've probably missed only two and my whole month is planned around not missing the socials. As much as I like congress', I like the socials better. The atmosphere and comraderie of a regular local event can't be matched by a less personal yearly event. It's especially good when you have guests performers and instructors that like to come and join in with everyone.

I don't know about anyone else, but after a good night of dancing -- I'm wired. If I can get to sleep by midnight after a night of dancing, it must have been just OK. This one took the meter to 3:30 AM before the adrenaline wore off.

Super Adorable!
To end I will just throw out my thanks to all the people who made this happen. It was a seriously great job and I'll re-itterate fact that it is all volunteer. Which demonstrates what people with a passion for dancing can do. Just like the YA volunteers, the Mas Mambo group put in a long weekend in Detroit, driving here on Friday evening and heading back after the social so they could make it to work on Monday.

Thanks to everyone for making it happen!

Costumes & music

Thanks Jamin & George,
It was a great Social. Sorry I missed the workshops and dinner having prior committments.
I enjoyed all of the costumes from the tiny Ladybug (she stole the show, rightfully so...) to the Grim Reaper. I think with all of the creativity it is hard to chose one over another. I think we had fun with it. I know I did. I have to figure out how to use less tape in the future, it got hot! I kept it a secret until I arrived. One guy did a point & click on the menu...well to a limited extent...teasing me...had to tell him to LOG OFF! All in jest! Davide suggested I attach a mouse next time. At first I thought it would be a good idea. Then I thought it best not to tempt those wanting to click & drag after I read the Bumble Bee's experience! One should know NEVER to mess with a Bee unless they want to get STUNG! Maybe a HORNET costume next time, they repeatedly sting?!
All in all it was a fantastic experience that left me smiling and satisfied my passion for dance and music. There were more ChaCha's than usual. Any plans to teach Cha Cha prior to the socials?
