Table for 6

First of all, I'd like to thank Renee, Jessica, Heather, Issac and Mala for a great dinner. Renee and I tried our first attempt at putting together an open invite dinner before the social. While numerically it wasn't all that successful; I have to say that I really enjoyed the company and it was fun. As planned, we met over at Champps in Livonia which really turned out to be a pretty good choice. The location, service and food were good and the noise was not a problem at all.

Ready to go dancing after the Pre-Social Meal at Champps
We tried to do this without a lot of formal planning and without limiting the invitations to the "in crowd" whomever that might be. No doubt we gave short notice and probably with a weekend full of dancing its hard to add to the schedule. There is also the obvious - many of the people we would love to sit down with for a meal were busy working on setting up the social so that we could waltz in and start dancing. Thanks guys!

As the meal wound down, we talked about what we could do next time to get more people involved and make people who might have felt unsure about the invite more comfortable. One idea included having a dinner meet-up on a day when we do not have a social - Samer mentioned this earlier and it came up at dinner -- I think its a great idea. Probably in the future we'll need to do more "personal inviting" -- which is always more time consuming and risks leaving people out. Also, since we want to make it possible for people who are new to the dance scene and really don't know other people we all agreed that we should use the YA website to communicate. Also if we have 6 or 10 people doing the inviting, then probably we can cover lots of people. Yes, more advance notice of course could help but trust me, we did our best :)

Sign-ups did not work at all, but of course if we don't have sign-ups of some kind we can't get tables and we have to limit ourselves to restaurants that have enough resources to deal with 20 or 50 unexpected people. So, next time we do this - please sign up even if you are "anonymous". We can do an Evite if that is better...

In the end, we were all enthusiastic about giving it another go so expect to see another annoucement in the near future and I hope more people will join. Ideas? Suggestions? Want to organize one?
