Water Smugglers

Water Smugglers. Please Stop.

A lot of you know this already but for those who don't this message is for you. Historically, keeping an weekly event built for salsa dancers alive at a nightclub is a huge challenge. Believe it or not, the 5 to 7 dollar cover charge per person does not go a long way to pay the bartenders, the DJ, the security, the instructors, the electric bills, the mortgage, etc. Normally those expenses are covered by alcohol sales at the bar.

Now no one is asking that you buy alcohol if that is not something you want. That would be silly. But if water is something that you are want then why not buy it from the bar? You purchase would do more then just quench your thirst. It would go toward supporting the people who are providing the service that you are their to receive. In this case lots of salsa music and dancing.

If buying from the bar (water. alcohol, or otherwise) is something most are not willing to do then one of two things would need to happen to continue:
  • Pay more at the door (cover charge) in which case you pay more and get less
  • or
  • Buy your water/drinks from the bar, in which case you pay more and GET MORE
Either way, if we salseros want to continue to have nightclub events that cater to our specific desires then we need to pay more. Not a lot more, but more. We, salsa event promoters and organizers, are doing our part by working hard to continuously introduce more people into the salsa scene, but it is all for not if our current community is working against us at the same time.

At the very least don't take back what you just paid by smuggling in your own drinks. It is an insult to the people who work hard to provide you what you came there for.

Spank!

Well, I have to say I am guilty of water smuggling - but I buy drinks while I'm at the bar, too. I bought water bottles at Harem before, but it seems they've stopped selling those and charge you for tiny cups of water now. Could we ask that they bring back the bottled water? I'm happy to pay for those.

I am reeling in disbelief!!

You too?!?!

Anyway, they still have bottled water. Last I looked they did... One way or another we will make sure bottled water is in the house!

Sort of

I usually try to load up on the water and bring whatever is left in my bottle in with me if I haven't finished it off before I walk in the door. I'm NOT in the bathroom refilling it ...

Two way street!

While I don't support the water smuggling, I also think it rediculous to have to get a bottled water when tap is available and to pay for a cup of water... I think the bar should have decent fruit juice and some of those energy drinks that people like. Suggestions: good OJ, rasberry juice, lemonade, Red Bull, Gatorade, fancy water. Then let people get a cup of water too.

Geo-

No one is smuggling juice in...

When is the last time someone ordered juice... that I would like to know.

Bottled H2O vs. tap water

Bottled H2O is still available for $3. As far as tap H2O goes (for $1?) , it is served small glasses. I would like a large glass. Do I have to order 2 glasses? I prefer tap water when I am fairly certain it is safe to drink (bacteria/mineral/contaminants contents). Being a rare alcohol drinker I buy bottled H20 & tip to help support the club. I have had tap H20 & drinks tampered with in the past @ other clubs & do not like leaving an open glass left unattended. I am not going to guzzle the drink down to avoid this. I don't think we should bring H20 in to the club. Are we violating any public health codes by bringing in food or drink? Has anyone checked?
