Learn for Free?

Money a little tight right now? Just want to dip one toe in the water?

Well, even on a budget there are salsa options. A little creativity, some perseverance, discipline and a positive attitude can put salsa in almost any budget.

Will Dancing with the Stars" help?

NO. But, the internet might... Sites like YouTube have free instructional videos so check out our instructional videos page. As one might expect, wikipedia has detailed articles for all kinds of dance.

Already paying for a gym membership?

Local gyms often have salsa aerobics classes where you can learn some basic footwork while getting in shape.

Got a video service and some discipline?

Rent a video and practice it on your own. These videos from recognized experts on sites like NetFlix or Blockbuster can give you the opportunity to learn footwork and partner patterns at your own pace.

Have more friends than money?

Bring two new friends to the YA Salsa socials and get in free. (Your friends can still think that you invited them because you enjoy their company.) Then take them home with you to practice what you learned.

In the end, you still need to get out to the clubs, and events!

So take advantage of the free lessons. For the price of cover, Salsa and Latin nights often have free lessons before the dance floor opens from top local instructors. Look for reduced cover charges for arriving early, promotional CDs or free events such as public concerts. Watching and studying other dancers doesn't cost anything more. Try sidling up to some of the intermediate or advanced dancers at the clubs for a hint or two.

One final tip...

Whether or not you are paying for privates or learning on the cheap: Practice. Practice. Practice. Your base' can never be too good and with or without a partner, you can work out your movement, styling, patterns and spins -- Note that a big mirror really helps!.

As you probably already have figured out, both in life and salsa, nothing is free. But in both, the best things don't cost the moon either!
