Frequently Asked Questions

This page is intended to answer common questions about this site. If you're question isn't answered here, please feel free to add a comment or contact us. As questions come up we will add to this page and add to it with the latest answers.

How Do I add an Article?

  • First you must register and account and login
  • Once you are logged in, click on the Contribute link
  • Next click on the Add to this Site in the submenu.
  • You should see a list of page types that you can add. Choose one, enter your article, review, or blog entry and click the submit button.

It is that easy. Your submission will appear in the appropriate section on the site for all to read and comment on.

How Do I add a Blog?

  • Even easier than writing an article but first you must have an account and log-in
  • Once you are logged in, click on the "My Blog' link
  • Next, click on the Post New Blog Entry link and start writing.

Why do I have to have an account to add to this site?

A few reasons. The most obvious is that we want to be able to have some way of reducing the potential for bad content and have some sense of personal responsibility. But primarily, this site is for people who are or want to be active in the Detroit Salsa scene and not just anyone on the internet.

How else can I help out?

YA Salsa is all volunteer and we need people to step up and lend a hand. Check out our contribute page for more info on how you can be involved in YA Salsa.

How can I correct an error in an article?

If you see an issue with an article, post a comment and let everyone know that something needs to be corrected. You can also go to the contact page to let the moderators and administrators know that there is an issue.

How can I correct an error in a comment?

If you need to change your comments, it will depend on whether you were logged in when you added the comment. If you were logged in, the "edit" option will be available on the comment. If you were "anonymous" then there is no way to change your comment. You will need to go to the contact page to let the moderators and administrators know that there is an issue.

How do I get my studio or club information on the site?

Contact us and we will work with you to create an article for your class or club. We want to ensure consistent information about each class and club so we don't allow those articles to be created by anyone other than an administrator.

I can't log into the site...

If you have successfully logged into the site before and now all of a sudden you cannot there are a few things you can try:

  • Clear your web browser cache and cookies. How do you do that? The exact steps are different depending on what browser you are using (i.e. IE, Firefox, AOL, Netscape) but generally in the menu bar of your browser there will be a 'Tools' menu. Within that drop down list select 'Options'. A new window will appear with all kinds of nifty options. Find the option to delete your 'browsing history' or 'private data', return to www.yasalsa.com and try to login again.
  • You have not registered... click here to register
  • You have been banned... click here to read YA Site policies

What's the difference between a Blog and an Article?

Blogs and Articles may look the same but how they are treated and organized are very different.

How they are the same:
  • Any registered user can create one
  • Any user can comment on one
  • Both can be rated.
  • They are visually very similar (for now)
How they are different:
  • Articles are posted to the front page of the site. Blogs entries are posted to your personal blog page (i.e. My Blog)
  • Articles are moderated. Blogs are not. Articles that do not meet our posting guidelines are not allowed to be published. Blog entries are allowed a lot more latitude (but don't push it...)
  • Every registered user has their own blog page (i.e. My Blog) where all their blogs entries will be posted in a list. There is no such personal list for Articles.
  • Blog entries may indeed get published to the front page. If your blog post is particularly interesting, insightful or inspiring then one of our site administrators may decide to promote it to the front page.

What are the Signups on events?

Signups are a way of indicating that you plan to attend an event -- that way people can see that other people are interested and do things like make reservations at restaurants, arrange rides or just communicate. Signups are not a way of paying for an event or doing an offical registration for an event.

no more jazzy salsa music at the social

i don't know about you guys but anybody that i talked to hated the jazzy salsa that was being played during the last Farmington social (Sep 2009). For god sake don't play that stuff again unless the majority of the people wants to hear it.

Different Opinion

I was at the social for the entire length of the event, and didn't hear any more "jazzy" salsa than normal. I personally thought Dj Koki and Dj Samer did a great job playing a wide variety of salsa styles.

Instrumental latin ala Latin Jazz

If I am understanding right, the jazzy salsa music referred to is Instrumental Salsa that has no signing, ala Latin Jazz. Yes, this format can get rather marathonish, and the musical motives tend to be repetitive.

Once in a while is Okay to mix it in, but more than that, it can feel like being held hostage to someone's self indulgent musical taste, especially when the musically format goes past the standard length.

jazzy salsa

I liked the "jazzy salsa" being referred above. It demonstrates the depth and widtrh of Hispanic culture. Salsa in my opinion is not of a singular, sterile voice; in my opinion, and not being of Hispanic heritage, I like not all but most of what I have heard at the Farmington Social. I thank all of the people who produce , teach , and work there.
By the way I dance swing and ballroom and am often bored by same old, same old music; prolific styles of music can be refreshing and stimulating. Thank you

NO jazzy music PLEASEEE!

NO jazzy music PLEASEEE!

Suggestions??

instead of simply saying "No jazzy music please", try suggesting some of your favorite salsa songs that you would like to hear.
