It’s time to meet yet another salsero that brings great energy to our dance floor! Andrew Gardner comes all the way from East Lansing to join us at the YA Salsa socials.

Name? Andrew Gardner

Where are you originally from? I was raised in Flushing, Michigan, but I live in East Lansing, while attending MSU!

How long have you been dancing salsa? I have danced for just about 2 ½ years, after learning that when I “danced” at parties, I was that white nerdy kid everybody stares at.

What is your favorite type of Latin dance and why?
I love salsa, because there are so many different ways you can dance it. Smooth and sultry, or fast and exciting, depending on the song, but either way there are so many possibilities! Bachata comes in a close second, but I don’t know nearly as much as I would like.

Where did you learn? I took a few lessons over my first summer dancing, but since then I’m mostly self taught. I’ve watch an innumerable number of Youtube videos over the past two years, but I think teaching salsa at MSU has taught me more about dancing than any lessons have.

What interesting fact do the salseros NOT know about you? (Until now!) I’m a GIANT nerd. I used to act at a Renaissance festival, and I use Linux on my laptop. Yup, I’m that guy, just without the tape on the glasses.
